BUDGET VOTE
Just when I was about to sign off after the previous whining post, I've got one more thing to say! This just came across on the Pro-Lifers for Peace and Justice email list.
URGENT: Budget, Arctic vote today -- make a call
House and Senate Republicans are about to reach a deal on budget
legislation
that would drastically slash healthcare for children and
seniors and explode
the debt. Also, tucked into the bill is a
provision that would open the
pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
to drilling for oil.
Senator
Arlen Specter is considered one of the key swing votes on this
legislation
because he has previously stood up to some parts of the
Republican agenda.
Sen. Specter needs to hear from constituents right
away. The Senate is
expected to vote tonight or tomorrow on this
terrible
legislation.
Attention Pennsylvania residents!
Please make a phone
call right now:
Senator Arlen Specter
DC Phone: 202-224-4254
Harrisburg Phone 717-782-3951
Tell whoever answers that you are a voter
in Pennsylvania, then say:
"I expect Sen. Specter to vote NO on the
budget because it would cut
healthcare for children and seniors, explode the
debt, and open the
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling."
Ask
for a letter explaining the Senator's position on these issues.
Then,
please report your call by clicking
here:

Your phone calls have made the
difference before. We need to keep Sen.
Specter voting right on these
important issues.
Thanks for all you do.
It's already passed... $10 billion cut in Medicaid, drilling in ANWR and $106 billion in tax cuts to boot! Budget deficit? What budget deficit?
Shortly before the House began its vote, Mr. DeLay said, "This is the budget the American people voted for when they returned a Republican House, a Republican Senate and a Republican president to the White House last November."
People do indeed get the kind of government they deserve.

This is depressing. I didn't call my senators because mine are Kay Bailey Hutchenson and John Cornyn, whom I have written to numerous times on this issue, always receiving the same BS form letter back about why it such a darn good idea to drill in the Artic Refuge. Cornyn, especially, has his head where the sun don't shine. It simply feels pointless. My rep,Lloyd Doggett, on the other hand, is fantastic, and always votes the way I would anyway. In fact, he is pretty vocal about his opposition to these things.

"This is the budget the American people voted for when they returned a Republican House, a Republican Senate and a Republican president to the White House last November."
Gee, the day after the election they told us that the things people were voting for when they voted Republican were the lives of the unborn and opposite-sex marriage. Then a few days after that, they said Dubya had a mandate from the people to demand that reporters only ask him one question at a time (remember that press conference?).
But now we know! What America was really voting for was cuts in medical care and oil drilling in national parks!
Unfortunately, the people don't get a line-item veto. We have to vote for the whole candidate.
