BIG BELLIES ON THE TELLY

It's so lovely to see her on television, pregnant and almost at full term.  In this clip (big download), the story partly revolves around her pregnancy, but most of the time she's just doing her regular job, faithfully bringing us the fake news.

Ana Gasteyer, too.  It was a few years ago that she was pregnant while on Saturday Night Live, but it was a thrill to see her, sometimes in skits that involved pregnancy, but sometimes just being.

I love to see pregnant women just having a life and being recognized as capable of gestating and chewing gum at the same time.

That wasn't me talking, that was Jon Stewart.

There's a lot of stuff about Judge John Roberts that I don't like, but I was really ticked off by the NARAL ad that called him a defender of clinic bombers.

But last night on The Daily Show, Jon really skewered NARAL over it.  You should definitely check out the archive on the Comedy Central website.

UPDATE: NARAL is pulling the ad.

I DON'T LIKE THE NEW SET

on The Daily Show.

The set is too big and the desk is too big.  It makes Jon look distant and the show look like it's trying to take itself seriously.  So far this week, Jon has been interviewing pundits and newsmakers, but it's going to look weird to see Adam Sandler or somebody sitting at that anchor desk with him.

"WE WON'T BE TALKING ABOUT . . ."

Today they aired Fried Green Tomatoes on TV (I think it was on TBS).  In the scene where Kathy Bates is talking with one of her friends from her women's empowerment group, the friend whispers, "Will I see you at group tonight?  We'll be talking about . . . menopause."

If you've seen the movie before, you'll know that the original line was altered for this TV airing.  That really struck me funny.  The whole idea of the women's group was that these prim and conventional southern women were trying to get past their inhibitions.  Kathy's friend had found it in herself to dare to speak the word, and what does she get for it?  She gets censored.  I guess that means that we, the viewing audience, are even more inhibited than these ladies from Alabama.
